Traditional Dig-and-Replace
Sometimes traditional excavation is the most cost-effective option, especially for shallow lines or when extensive landscaping renovation is already planned. We excavate, replace pipes, and restore your property.
Many St. Louis homes built before 1980 have clay sewer pipes that crack, separate at joints, and eventually collapse. Clay pipes are particularly vulnerable to St. Louis's freeze-thaw cycles and ground shifting. Camera inspection shows us exactly where pipes are failing so we can target repairs or plan full replacement.
St. Louis neighborhoods like Soulard, The Hill, and Central West End have beautiful 100+ year old trees. Unfortunately, these trees' roots aggressively seek out sewer lines for water. Once roots enter through a small crack, they grow until they completely fill the pipe. We see this constantly in homes built before 1970.
St. Louis winters cause ground to freeze and thaw repeatedly, shifting and settling the soil. This creates low spots in sewer lines where debris accumulates, and can crack rigid clay or cast iron pipes. Many chronic backup problems are caused by "bellied" sections created by ground movement over decades.
Older St. Louis neighborhoods often have aging municipal sewer systems that can back up into private lines during heavy rain. If you experience backups only during storms, the problem may be partially with the city system. We can install backwater valves to prevent municipal sewer from backing into your home.
